A simple common dish in Hungary, this type of ham is commonly eaten around Christmas, New Year and Easter. It is usually eaten with horseradish sauce.

While many would not consider it to be all that different from similar pieces of ham consumed in parts of the world, unlike the North American version the Hungarian ham has no sugar or syrup in it.

Ham and other meat products in Hungary are normally smoked in the traditional way, not by spraying them with smoke flavored food additives that are becoming the norm in North America.
