White Lions

White lions are just a color variation, not a separate species. They really are otherwise completely normal lions — only their fur is white, they are not albinos.

White Lions (Panthera leo krugeri)

The white lions in the picture live in the Szeged Zoo in Hungary.

White lions are not particularly common. The mutation that causes their white color is recessive and it is only found in one subspecies of lions. Even though white lions can lead a normal life in the wild, for a while all white lions lived in zoos, and only recently have they been reintroduced into the wild.
