Rhinoceros Beetle

European Rhinoceros Beetle (Oryctes nasicornis), Békéscsaba, Hungary.
This is the male of the species with the horn on his nose.

In Hungary, where the pictures were taken, only the stag beetle is larger.

It is a rare, endangered species, so one does not come across a rhinoceros beetle every day, and the opportunity to see one, or take photos of one must be appreciated.

Fortunately in some areas there was and increase in the population of rhinoceros beetles, so there is a chance that the species will survive.
