The box tree moth is native to East Asia but it has become an invasive pest all over Europe.
Its caterpillars mostly feed on the leaves of box tree (Buxus) species. Where this moth has no natural predators and its population can grow unchecked the box tree moth can become very destructive.
The species has only appeared in Hungary in 2011 but it is already becoming somewhat common in some areas.
