The Hilaire’s side-necked turtle is a freshwater turtle from South America mainly from Brazil.

Hilaire’s side-necked turtle (Phrynops hilarii), Budapest Zoo.
I have never heard of Hilaire’s side-necked turtles until I saw them at the Budapest Zoo, and information about them on the Internet seems to be somewhat scarce.
Apparently some people do keep Hilaire’s side-necked turtles as pets even though they are large and require a lot of swimming space.
