The burrowing owl is a very small ground dwelling owl from the grasslands of North and South America.
Burrowing owl do live on the ground where, unlike most other owls, they tend to hunt in the day time. Burrowing owls very rarely dig their own burrows, they usually just try to find one dug by prairie dogs ore other animals.
Overall burrowing owls are not of concern for conservationists but local populations especially in Western Canada are endangered.
