The white rhinoceros is one of the two African species of rhinoceros.
The white rhinoceros is grey in color. The English name white rhinoceros was apparently derived from the mistranslation of a Dutch word meaning ‘wide’ referring to this animal’s mouth which is wide as opposed to the hooked lip of the other African rhinoceros species which is now called the black rhinoceros even though they are both grey in color.
Both African rhinoceros species has two horns on their noses unlike the Asian ones such as the Indian rhinoceros which only has one horn.
