The Eurasian eagle-owl is a type of horned owl that lives virtually everywhere on the Eurasian continent.
The Eurasian eagle-owl is a very large owl, and one of the largest birds of prey in its native range. A female Eurasian eagle-owl can be 75 cm long and weight over 9 pounds, the male is somewhat smaller, but it is weights about twice as much as its North American cousin the great horned owl.
Like most owls the Eurasian eagle-owl is mostly nocturnal.
The Eurasian eagle-owl is a predator and it eats all sorts of small animals, such as small rodents like mice and rats, rabbits and hares but it also eats hedgehogs using its huge talons to grab the unfortunate hedgehog and skin it before eating it. The Eurasian eagle-owl will also eat any bird it can catch as well as reptiles, frogs, insects and worms.
The Eurasian eagle-owl has a large range and and their number is large thus they are not of particular concern for conservationists.
