The American robin is one of the most common birds around here, yet I seem to be unable to take a good picture of one.

Finally on the grounds of the Toronto Zoo I was able to get close enough to take these pictures, which are still not great.
The American robin is a songbird and like many of its relatives it eats mainly insects and various berries. American robins are not closely related to the European robin they just look superficially similar.
