The pumping Xenia coral is a fascinating creature because for a long time nobody had any idea why it was constantly pumping.
Now, it seems at least some people claim they have solved this mystery, and figured out why the Xenia is pumping.
Others use it as a kind of biological filter.
It is an easy to keep coral that does well in most reef tanks.
They do grow quickly even under less than ideal conditions so long as they get enough iodine.
They make a great beginner’s coral.
Sometimes they grow so much that some people would consider them to be a pest in reef tanks.
