African clawed frogs are sold in lots of pet stores as an aquarium pet, but they should not be confused with the African dwarf frog which is a completely different species. African clawed frogs are fully aquatic and spend their entire lives in the water.

Various frogs of the Xenopus genus are used for a variety of biological and medical research.

African clawed frogs are also eaten in some African countries.

African clawed frogs are not endangered, quite the contrary they have become invasive species and they are considered to be pests in various parts of the USA and Europe.
