The greater Egyptian jerboa occupies different habitats many of them dry and desert-like, it is well adapted to environments where water is scarce. The greater Egyptian jerboa is vegetarian and its kangaroo-like locomotion is probably an adaptation to save energy while running from predators at high speed since its food can be scarce.

The greater Egyptian jerboa is wide spread and it is considered to be a pest in some places because it eats crops.

Some people do keep a greater Egyptian jerboa as a pet, but it is still somewhat rare and the greater Egyptian jerboa is considered to be an exotic pet.
