The African spurred tortoise in the picture lives in the Szeged Zoo<\/a> in Hungary<\/a> and I have seen it wandering around very slowly what looked like an office building on the zoo grounds.<\/p>\n

In the wild the African spurred tortoise lives in Africa around the southern edge of the Sahara desert. African spurred tortoises grow up to about thirty-odd inches long and can live over a hundred years. African spurred tortoises eat mainly grass and other plant parts but they will eat small animals such as insects.<\/p>\n

Some people like to keep an African spurred tortoises as pets in spite of their large size.<\/p>\n
